Irony

Irony

Irony is used all the time. The meaning of irony is use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. Someways that irony is used in my life is when my mom tells me I have to work all weekend and my reply is wow how nice.

I read a poem called "Richard Cory" by Edwin Arlington Robinson. Richard Cory was a young man.He was clean, slim, rich, and a gentleman from sole to crown.Richard dress very polite and cleaned favored. Some facts about him was that he use to wait for the light before crossing the street. He also put a bullet through his head. The way people reacted to Richard was if like they was living in his place cause of the way he use to walk and express himself. One fact about this poem is "But still he fluttered pulses when he said,'good-morning" and he glittered when he walked." i know this is a fact because they explain a few detail on what he did and said and also looked. When i read this poem it shocked me. The reason it shocked me was because the young man sounded like he was a very good person and he end up putting a bullet through his head. There could have been many reasons why he did that. Maybe his life was to perfect, Or he could had made it seem to other people that it was great when it really wasn't.This poem is rarly different from a news paper the reason is different is because news papers wt give in details on why he put a bullet through his head and let us on his family and background.

Next, I read a short story called "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W Jacob. This short story is about a father and son at a chess game. The son had made a little slight mistake. but after all the old man was talking about the Monkeys paw. he really didn't want to get into it because he had not remember. but he said the Monkeys paw is something like magic. The old man took something out his pocket and what it was, was a dried up mummy.
